The City Different
Santa Fe, New Mexico not only has an extremely rich culture and history, but it also has a high concentration of artists and authors.
Nestled in the foothills of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains, Santa Fe is a great place to visit or live year round with a mild continental climate and an average of 300 days of sun a year.
Santa Fe is called The City Different. Not only is it the highest state capital (at 7,000 feet above sea level), but also is believed to be America's oldest city. The city attracts artists, authors, musicians, historians, and even technology and science professionals.
Since 1943, Santa Fe maintained an association with technology and science by serving as the gateway to Los Alamos National Laboratory, a 45 minute drive from the city. The Los Alamos National Laboratory is a United States Department of Energy national laboratory. In 1984, the Santa Fe Institutewas founded to research complex systems in the physical, biological, economic, and political sciences. It hosts such Nobel laureates as Phil Anderson (physics), Murray Gell-Mann (physics), and Kenneth Arrow (economics).
Santa Fe is an important part of America's art culture. Famous artists like Georgia O'Keeffe and Alfred Stieglitz were attracted to Santa Fe because of its artistic environment and unique appeal.

Cathedrals (the one above is Cathedral Basilica of Saint Francis of Assisi) and churches make up a big part of the wonderful architecture in Santa Fe.
There are dozens of art galleries, museums, festivals, and outdoor statues to keep a visitor busy for a long time and to provide rich cultural entertainment for those that live in Santa Fe. It's no wonder that Santa Fe is referred to as "The City Different". |
